Hi Happy Composters,

We would like to share some important news regarding the City of Bozeman's new organics program and how we are seeking your support during this transition period.  While this marks an exciting step forward for waste diversion in our community and we have been selected to process the city's collections, it also poses a significant shift for our still small business.

We still depend on subscriptions to stay operational, and your support during this limbo period whether by continuing your service, switching gradually, or spreading the word- would mean the world to us.

  • Apologies, and please disregard this message if it doesn't apply to you, as the city's program is currently only focused on single-family dwellings within city boundaries.

Our Involvement in the City’s New Program

  • Bozeman Solid Waste has contracted us to process the compost they collect

  • All materials collected by the city will be brought to us for composting.

  • We are not involved with city pick-up so if you switch to them, please direct all program questions to Bozeman Solid Waste Management.

  • Important note: The city does not accept compostable serviceware (like to-go containers and utensils), even if you’ve been composting them with us in your Happy Compost bucket, you can not put them in your city bin.

How You Can Continue to Support Us

A. Stick with Us a Little Longer

  • Help us bridge this transition period by continuing as a Happy Compost member for even just a few more months.

  • Sudden cancellations impact us more than you might think. We’re working hard to continue business operations as usual while gearing up for the new workload.

B. Sign Up for Our Drop-Off Only Service

  • Want to switch to the city service but wish to still compost your to-go-wares?

  • Stay with us as a Drop-Off Only Member:

    • Drop off food scraps and compostable to-go containers year-round.

    • Sliding scale subscriptions: Minimum $5/month - Suggested $10/month

    • Continue to directly contribute to our "farm feedstock" and continue to receive free compost shares and discounts on bulk compost

    • Central Coop location (with more locations in the works)

  • We will continue to accept certified compostable items from our direct members.

  • Our compost is processed in a separate stream and used by local farms.

  • We’ve been supporting small farms through compost 9 years and hope to continue for many more.

 Other Ways to Help

  • Leave us a Google review – it’s free, fast, and helps more than you know:

  • Spread the word with friends and neighbors interested in composting. Folks in multi-family homes, renters, and those outside of Bozeman city limits can still compost with us!

  • Follow us on social media to stay in the loop and spread the compost love.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

We're thrilled about this new chapter and eager to move past the current limbo phase. Once we find our groove over the next few months, we’ll be in a much better position to shift into our new business model. This is something we’ve been working toward after nine incredible years!

Thank you!

Compost and carry on,
Adrienne & Ryan
